PROPOSED WORK

This page describes some of the future activities planned for GUP and how the Peace Centre should be refurbished to stay at the heart of GUP's work.

Future Activities

Recently GUP has done Strategic Planning to determine future project activities through a participatory process with the help of the OD consultants. The organizational vision and mission was revisited. The contextual analysis was done. The strategic planning emphasized the promotional activities. Therefore, the management of GUP, recognizing increasing violence in the local and global context, decided that it had to strengthen its peace activities to play bigger role than before. In order to foster peace and to function effectively the Peace Centre will require the following changes:

Reconstruction of the Existing Peace Library: The present Peace Library, housed in a tin-shed, is not able to provide readers with an appropriate atmosphere or facilities. Due to its dilapidated condition, it is also unsuitable to preserve books. Responding to the readers' needs, the management of GUP plans to construct a two-story building where the library will be housed in the ground floor and the upper floor will be used for the visitors those who come for study and research purpose. Plans and a budget have been prepared and examined by the UK-based fund raising group of Settle Quakers. A drawing of the proposed new library is shown (right).

Renovation of the Old Buildings: The Peace Centre has 3 old buildings of the past century with good archaeological significance. Keeping the archaeological importance and the cultural and traditional values in mind, the Peace Centre would like to preserve and use those buildings (shown below) for trainees, volunteers and visitors. Therefore, a budget for renovation has been prepared and examined by the Settle group.

In addition, it is planned to extend the existing mini Dairy Farm into a larger farm with 30 cows. The plan and budget for this will be submitted to PKSF and other potential donors.

Strengthening the priority ongoing programs:

Training in Peace and Conflict Transformation will be offered to young people, samity members and the civil society members.

Childrens' School: Besides offering extra curriculum teaching on art, culture and other creative activities, the school will organize more residential peace camps for the children.
