Ataur Rahman

GUP means, in English, "People's Development Efforts" and its success is essentially the success of the Bangladeshi people.

However, the charismatic leadership of Ataur Rahman (pictured here at an eye clinic, centre right of photo) was enormously influential over the period from its inception to his untimely death in 2003.

It is the hope of his many friends that the renewed Peace Centre, whose library will be named after him, will be a lasting tribute.
